What you need to know about CCTV Cameras

How to tell if a CCTV system (closed circuit television surveillance systems) is best for your needs.

Local stores and some online retailers sell cheap CCTV camera packages.
Some of them are even 4 Camera CCTV kit solutions.

The most important issues with a CCTV camera is colour and night vision quality.

Hey Security

Avoid purchasing a system that provides poor quality images which are unable to be used by police if an incident occurs.
Hence looking at the components of a CCTV camera will be useful.
A CCTV camera itself is usually made up of the following: lens, sensor, and digital signal processor, or DSP.
The lens focuses the light that is to be imaged onto the sensor, which then passes it to the DSP which converts it into a TV signal.
This signal is then transmitted to a central location either by wire or wirelessly for storage and viewing.

Like any camera it is often the lens that contributes a significant amount to the quality of an image.

CCTV Sensors

Most CCTV sensors are either CMOS or CCD with CMOS being cheaper and less effective.
One advantage of CMOS is it uses less power but does not create as clear an image as CCD.
Also the larger the sensor the more light it can process and better image quality.

A common specification for CCTV cameras is the number of horizontal lines of TV resolution it can output, or its TVL.
This can range up to 1000 TVL.
Some experts recommend 420TVL as a minimum.

Recording DVR

DVR (digital video recording) allows images to be recorded.

Security as a deterent

Video monitoring (CCTV) cameras serve as a valuable criminal deterrent and provide video evidence of monitored areas.

What the experts recommend

"Our night viewing cameras allow functioning and recording in complete darkness, you are able to view and record as if it were daylight."

Systems can be configured to operate when motion is detected, this captures any motion and creates an event as it happens.
Cameras also can include vehicle plate recognition which can display a car's number plate even when vehicles are moving over 100Km/h - day or night.

Security cameras can even be integrated into your TV according to home automation specialists who configure and setup Alarms and Security Brisbane.

How cool would it be to be able to arm and disarm your home or office from your smart phone?
