When your bathroom sink or drain smells it's time to call the plumber.
Odours are generally bacteria and a sign something is not quite right.
For example when people shower body cells and fats can collect on the walls of pipes.
If those smells are straight from the sewer, it can be dangerous to your health.
Disease can spread from the sewer to the occupants of the house.
Many things can cause a sewage smell in your bathroom.
It can be hard to find the cause of those odours.
Methane in sewer gas can actually be flammable in large quantities, the methand can also be hazardous to your health.
If your bathroom does not smell nice the culprit may be your P Trap. Watch the video What is a P Trap?
With P traps, the waste pipe from your vanity or sink makes a loop which retains water inside, creating the water seal.
Tip: if you are going away for a length of time put the plug in the sink to prevent the seal evaporating and thus allowing odours directly from the sewer into your bathroom.
A Blocked Drain can be a cause of odours as grease etc collate where they would normally flow.
