Pool Cleaning

Pool cleaning involves comprehensive water analysis, balancing chemicals and their supply, vacuuming, brooming, leaf raking.

Some of the tasks involved in the pool cleaning process-:

1 Cleaning the pool walls
Brush the surface with an appropriate pool brush

2 Pump and filter inspection
A choked filter is not effective. Replace the filter once every 3 years.
A 1kW pump, cycles 10 hours per day, seven days a week and can cost $112 a month over summer, and $80 a month in winter.

3 Tile band cleaning
The tile band should be cleaned with the correct tile cleaning product.

4 Surface water cleaning with a leaf net
The net is helpful in removing dead leaves and small debris from the water.

5 Vacuum cleaning
Use an appropiately designed pool vacuum (or robotic cleaner).
Vacuuming removes the grime at the bottom of the pool and also microscopic algae spores your filter may have missed.
It is recommended to vacuum the pool at least once a week.

6 Adding Chemicals to your pool - safely
Firstly never combine or mix chemicals unless specifically directed on the label.
Keep all chemicals out of reach of children and educate them on the risks.
Ensure your pool pump is running when adding chemicals to allow them to circulate properly.
Avoid adding chemicals to your pool skimmer.
Always wear a face mask, goggles, gloves and protective clothing when adding chemicals to your pool.

Costs per swim of a swimming pool

Like when using a bookkeeping company to help manage your cashflow your swimming pool is an expense. To many it will be an essential luxury and a pleasure but it still costs money to run.

A typical backyard pool can account for up to 30 per cent of a household's yearly power bill

Evaporation can account for up to 5mm of water per day for an uncovered pool. This does depend on location and exposure to direct sunlight.

Any way you look at it pool maintenance is an expense. We must take into account pool equipment, pool safety requirements and pool heating.

Is it time to get a professional to look after your pool? What if your chemical reliance and expenses were reduced or the power consumption was dramatically reduced? You could go for a swim in your spare time. It may be very difficult to estimate the actual cost per swim in your pool.
